Abstract:

The aim of this report is to present main changes in the hydrology of the Daugava River estuary after its natural water flow became regulated and to present a simple physical model of mixing and circulation in a strongly stratified river estuary. The Daugava River is one of the main rivers in the Gulf of Riga drainage basin covering the Baltic countries. The yearly runoff in Daugava averages 800 m?/s with peaks larger than 3,000 m?/s in spring.
