Abstract:

Boundary layer theory is used to develop a backwater model for flows through vegetated waterways which can be employed to approximately estimate flow depth variation in channel restoration projects. The effect of vegetation density on flow stage and regime for normal flow conditions are also analyzed and two simple relations to quantify such effect are obtained.
