Abstract:

The presence of porous streambeds generates a significant interaction between the main stream flow above it and the flow through the porous sub-stratum. This coupling affects both flows, and in particular makes it possible for the pollutant to transport from one region across the porous interface into the adjacent region. The mechanism of such complicated interaction on the contaminant transport is explored and its magnitude examined using a simple model.
