Abstract:

Flood flow in natural channels with floodplains is often confined in the main channel by the presence of levees. The hydraulic performance of these kinds of channels can be seriously affected by breaching of the levees. Therefore, for a given inflow from upstream different water stages occur at the same location before and after the breaching. In this paper a new method of hydraulic performance graph (HPG) is applied for the determination of the flood stages for the pre- and post-breaching conditions.
