Abstract:

A 1-D flow model employing a high resolution scheme based on the Total Variation Diminishing concept is applied to non-prismatic channels of irregular cross-section. The hydraulic properties of a channel cross-section are approximated by power functions of water depth. Numerical results show that the model satisfactorily predicts flows in channels with smoothly varying bed elevation, but has to be improved when channel cross-section and thalweg elevation vary considerably.
