Abstract:

We, the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, are developing a juvenile salmonid surface bypass and collection prototype for Lower Granite Dam. One of the more promising concepts being considered is the use of a fish guidance structure in combination with a powerhouse and/or spillway surface-oriented fishway entrance system. To test this concept, a floating fish guidance curtain is scheduled for installation and evaluation at Ice Harbor Dam in the Spring of 1997. This paper discusses the technical and biological issues involved in the development of the curtain design and test program.
