Abstract: This manual, Environmental Site Investigation, was prepared as a guidance on procedures for investigating and characterizing a site that may be or is contaminated with hazardous materials. It begins with the general overview of the evolution of the site assessment process from the original environmental audit through the passage of the Federal Superfund and related state Superfund legislation. The second chapter presents an extensive and detailed discussion on performing a Phase I site assessment. In Chapter 3 the Phase II intrusive site investigation process is discussed. Risk assessment issues are also included. The last two chapters present an overview of the Phase III (remedial investigation) and Phase IV (remedial planning, design, and implementation) procedures. While this manual's main purpose is to provide guidance to environmental consultants, it will also be used by clients, environmental lawyers, bankers, real estate managers, and others to evaluate the work completed by these consultants.
