Abstract:
Technical Engineering and Design Guides, as adapted from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, No. 12.
This manual presents guidance for the hydraulic design of spillways for flood control or multipurpose dams. Overflow, chute, and specialized spillways, such as side channel and limited service spillways, are covered along with general spillway functions and related design considerations. The book briefly reviews hydraulic design theory, available experimental data and coefficients, and the analysis of possible problems related to spillway design.
Topics include: spillway crest design; shaft spillways and box inlet drop spillways designed for small dams; tainter and vertical lift gates; and energy dissipators.
Subject Headings: Hydraulic design | Spillways | Data analysis | Dams | Stream channels | Shafts | Overflow
