Abstract:

This proceedings, Earthquake-Induced Movements and Seismic Remediation of Existing Foundations and Abutments, contains papers presented at the ASCE Annual Convention and Exposition held in San Diego, California, October 23-27, 1995. With the increased use of displacement-based analysis and design, the evaluation of seismically-induced foundation and abutment movement has become a topic of great interest. Empirical, experimental, and analytical approaches to the prediction of seismically-induced foundation and abutment displacement have been researched. In addition, remediation of existing foundations for mitigation of seismic hazards has also become a topic of considerable professional interest. This proceedings provides the civil engineer with a much needed collection of research results and case histories on these two important seismic engineering topics.
