Abstract:

This proceedings, Integrated Water Resources Planning for the 21st Century, contains papers presented at the 22nd Annual Conference of ASCE's Water Resources Planning and Management Division held in Cambridge, Massachusetts on May 7-11, 1995. The major theme of the conference was the challenge facing water resource professionals to develop and implement decision-making approaches that integrate the numerous objectives and constraints in reaching balanced water management strategies. Much attention was given to the principles of watershed-based planning and sustainable development as underlying foundations for sound water resources protection and development. International events included two sessions covering water resources issues in Pacific Rim countries and a Symposium on the water resources management aspects of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Papers presented at the conference included covered such topics as: 1)urban drainage and stormwater; 2) water rights and policy; 3) watersheds and wetlands; 4) water pollution control; 5) water supply planning and management; 6) economics, flood control and risk assessment; 7) water conservation and stochastic hydrology; 8) information resources; and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
