Abstract:
The proceedings of the Sixth Annual International Conference on High Level Radioactive Waste Management, held on April 30-May 5, 1995, Las Vegas, Nevada, continues a concerted effort to transfer technology and ideas across the functional attributes of high level waste management, processing, storage, transport, and disposal. The book is divided into four volumes. Volume one is concerned with natural systems such as rock mechanics, flow in fractures, and infiltration and climate change. The second volume explores integrated systems in a variety of areas such as waste acceptance and transportation. Volume three deals with engineered systems such as cask system design and subsurface facilities. The final volume covers institutional systems and methods of involving the public in these issues. The wide range of topics covered in conjunction with the increased participation of the international community provide a basis for informed decisions regarding the scientific and policy issues concerning the safe disposal of high-level radioactive wastes.
