Abstract:
With environmentally sound development getting increasing attention, there is a need to bring experienced environmental engineers together with counterparts in the developing world who lack hands-on environmental experience. The author, a Boca Raton, Florida, consulting engineer, is chairman of the Panamerican Federation of Engineering Societies' Committee on Sustainable Development. He describes his committes's plans, including promoting environmental awareness in Latin America in the Caribbean through the media; conducting demonstration projects with the help of government funds and experts donated by private firms; and providing training in appropriate technology.
