Abstract:

This proceedings, Risk-Based Decision Making in Water Resources VI, contains edited papers presented at the sixth Engineering Foundation Conference held in Santa Barbara, California, October 31 - November 5, 1993. During this conference, the sense of the need for a stronger theoretical and methodological foundation to deal with the risk of extreme and catastrophic events remained high on the agenda of the participants. Many of the issues that emerged during the fifth conference, such as the possibility of global climate change, the safety of dams under extreme hydrologic conditions, the protection of lives and properties from catastrophic natural hazards, and the nationwide state of deterioration of our water resources, were addressed in diverse ways by conference participants, but much more work remains.
