Abstract:

This paper deals with the numerical analysis of 2D steady high velocity flows with the zero - depth line and the oblique shock wave in steep open channels by means of the method of characteristics. The basic equations of plane 2 - D flows in the steady state are transformed into the characteristic form. The method of calculation as for the hydraulic variables on the zero - depth line and the oblique shock wave is developed by using the characteristic form and the shock conditions. The fundamental numerical model proposed is applied to the flow below an abrupt expansion of the steep open - channel. It is shown that the propagation of the zero - depth line and the shock wave are well reproduced numerically.
