Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

The paper evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of shallow water equations in steep open channel flow. These equations, 1) St. Venant equations, 2) steep slope shallow water equations and 3) a form of Dressler's equations are analyzed. A numerical model of these three equations is used to generate results which are compared with flume results for flow over a spillway crest and the dominant deficiencies of each equation set is illustrated and discussed.
