Abstract:

In sand-bed streams, the unit discharge of sand varies approximately with the fifth power of the mean velocity and inversely with the median diameter of the bed sediment. Similar relations are found for experimental data on gravel transport for particle sizes between about 2 and 28 mm and depths on the order of a meter. Observed transport rates agree fairly well with computed transport rates using the Engelund-Hansen equation.
