Abstract:

Some experimental data are presented concerning the distribution of boundary shear stresses in trapezoidal open channels for both inbank and overbank flows. The local shear stresses on the side walls in the immediate vicinity of the river banks and on the floodplain are shown to be strongly affected by three-dimensional effects.
