Abstract:

A two-dimensional physical model study was used to quantify the kinetic energy dissipation of the steps in a roller compacted concrete (RCC) stepped spillway. The steps were effective in dissipating energy and significantly reduced the size of stilling basin required at the toe of the spillway compared with a conventional chute spillway.
