Hydraulic Model Studies of Recessed Curb Inlets and Bridge Drains

by E. R. Holley, Univ of Texas, Austin, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

A large hydraulic model (64 ft long by 10.5 ft wide) was used to test several geometries of recessed curb inlets and three types of bridge drains. Testing was at 3/4 scale for the recessed inlets and for one of the drains and was at full scale for two of the drains. Both the longitudinal and cross slopes could be varied from 0 to 8% in the model. For the two drains with piping, effects of the piping were also investigated. Design equations were developed for each of the inlets and drains.
