Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to examine applicability of genetic algorithms in groundwater planning and management. A brief description of genetic algorithms and the associated advantages is presented followed by development of an optimization model based on genetic algorithms. Applicability of the developed model as a management tool is demonstrated on a hypothetical aquifer, first to calibrate and then to arrive at an optimal pumping policy.
