Abstract:

Third Lake, located in Lake County, Illinois, is expected to exhibit worsening inlake water quality as development occurs within its watershed. A geographic information system (GIS) application was used to conduct a nonpoint source watershed assessment and corrective action study for reducing stormwater pollutants in runoff to the lake. The GIS results were used to prioritize pollutant sources and prepare corrective action plans for reducing these stormwater pollutants. A final corrective action plan must balance inlake water quality improvement strategies with the implementation of watershed-wide best management practices.
