Abstract:

This article describes the main results obtained experimentally by the French Bridge and Road Research Laboratories on the settlement of shallow foundations under centered vertical loads. Some 80 loading tests performed at 6 sites, representing 4 types of soil, were analyzed. The authors propose a method for estimating the long-duration settlements of shallow foundations on silts and sands.
