Vertical and Horizontal Deformations for Foundations on Sand: An Experimental Study

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Vertical and Horizontal Deformations of Foundations and Embankments

Abstract:

A natural scale model is used in order to investigate experimentally the sand soil deformation behavior which accepts loads by shallow foundations. The vertical and horizontal soil displacements were measured. The vertical strains and the footing settlements are broken down into two components: a component due to the reduction of the soil voids and a component due to soil constant volume deformation. The investigation results are presented and evaluated critically.
