Three Dimensional Simulation of Progressive Tunneling Process for Lining Design of Intersecting Tunnels in Soft Rock

This paper presents the results of the state-of-the-art three-dimensional nonlinear finite element modeling of progressive tunneling process and its comparison with field data. Reasonable agreement between field measurements and predictions were found. This validated the modeling procedure as well as the geotechnical parameters determined from laboratory tests of boring cores from the construction site.
