Abstract:

Analysis of a bridge superstructure is complicated by the general geometric and loading conditions. Presented in this paper are three dimensional finite element modeling techniques used in predicting the actual behavior of I-girder bridges. The bridge superstructure is idealized for analysis and it is in this idealization phase that the selection of finite element models and greatest differences are encountered. Continuation of the AASHTO practice of analyzing girders using the new DF technique can prove to be effective in bridge behavior prediction and agreement with the test data also proves the effectiveness of the 3 dimensional finite element modeling techniques employed in this paper.
