Abstract:

Unlike other soil properties, permeability of compacted clay is highly variable. The large number of parameters that affect permeability of compacted clay renders permeability unpredictable even at laboratory scale. An expert system that aids in designing permeability experiments and predicting coefficient of permeability of compacted clay is described in this paper. Advantages and limitations of the expert system are also discussed.
