Abstract:

Successful reservoir operations planning largely depends on knowing the future inflow to the system; understanding the objectives of the reservoir system; and understanding the relationship between the reservoirs, constraint conditions, and water rights. A reservoir planning and operation decision support system (DSS) compiles this information based on model output, and provides decision makers with operation alternatives. In this article, a reservoir DSS that incorporates National Weather Service River Forecast System (NWSRFS) Extended Streamflow Prediction (ESP) forecast information is introduced.
