Water Transfer Law in Kansas

by John C. Peck, Univ of Kansas Sch of Law, Lawrence, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Water Policy and Management: Solving the Problems

Abstract:

As Kansas enters an era when the water resources are almost fully appropriated, entities needing water may have to purchase or condemn water rights and might have to go long distances to obtain water, either in the state or out of state. Several Kansas statutes will help guide these diversions: the Kansas Water Appropriation Act, the Kansas Water Transfer Act, and the Kansas Administrative Procedure Act.
