Abstract:

The initial version of the Nile Forecasting System developed by NOAA was used operational in July, 1993. Forecast System accuracy exceeded expectations. The Nile Forecast Center is now operational and now functioning with six trained Engineers. In Phase II, NOAA intends to improve model operations and calibrations in the Blue Nile Basin, apply the NFS models to the White Nile Basin, develop Data Base Management functions for the Hydroclimate component, and investigate the suitability of implementation of the NFS into the remaining Nilotic countries.
