Abstract:

Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) markets and distributes the hydroelectric power produced at 30 federal projects in the Columbia River Basin. In order to plan the System's coordinated reservoir operations, use of a hydrologic forecasting tool, the National Weather Service River Forecast System (NWSRFS), is being implemented. The NWSRFS consists of a set of interrelated computer programs developed to provide continuous hydrologic forecasting on a daily or hourly basis for periods of one day up to an entire season.
