Abstract:

An interactive PC-based system for wave refraction-diffraction in coastal regions has been developed, based on a Mild-slope equation finite element wave model. The system includes an embedded Geographic Information System, and sophisticated graphics user interface. The model accounts for partial wave absorption at boundaries, and energy dissipation by bottom friction. Interactive graphic tools have been developed, for both boundary fitted grid generation (pre-processing), and for the analysis and verification of model predictions (pre- and post-processing).
