Abstract:

The numerical simulation of mobile bed evolutions of seas, estuaries and rivers requires a morphological model, including the effects of waves, currents and sediment transport, as well as their interactions. In this article, we are focussing on the bed evolution model, for which we use the finite element method. The corresponding highly non-linear equation, coupled with a transport formula, is solved with a Lax-Wendroff scheme. Moreover, to take into account the deviation of the transport due to the action of gravity, we have developed a general formulation of the slope-related transport. Several examples show the efficiency of the model and the necessity to include this new formulation into the evolution models.
