Abstract:

Elastic overall buckling of single layer latticed barrel vault roof structures under static vertical loading is investigated using a fully nonlinear finite element solution procedure and a simple reduced stiffness bifurcation analysis. The present rigidly-jointed latticed vault consists of 212 straight members. Two types of boundary support system, a roller support system and a pinned support system, have been adopted. The distributions of displacement and internal axial force are determined by boundary conditions. It has been observed that the nonlinear numerical experiments are very sensitive to geometric imperfections. A correlation between the scattered nonlinear buckling response and the reduced stiffness lower bound load spectrum, has been discussed.
