Abstract: Guidelines for PC-Based Data Acquisition Systems for Hydraulic Engineering reviews the state-of-the-art in personal computer-based data acquisition systems for application in the hydraulic engineering community. Along with the rapid growth of personal computer technology over the last 10 years, the engineering profession has also seen an associated explosion in electronics and accessories in the measurement and control fields. Because of these developments, a very large selection of PC-based data acquisition equipment is available. This Guidelines provides the engineer with information on various aspects of data acquisition systems such as: 1) Types of data acquisition systems available; 2) uncertainty in measurement system; 3) practical considerations in selecting a system; 4) computer programs for these systems; 5) noise control; and 6) calibration of equipment. While these concepts involved in the development of PC-based data acquisition systems relate to all areas of engineering research, the examples used in this book emphasize their applications in the field of hydraulic engineering.
