Abstract:
Horizontal and vertical barriers have been used on transportation facilities to control expansive soils and minimize their damages. The effort is to minimize moisture change in the soil and minimize its often destructive volumetric change. The use of geomembranes, a waterproofed fabric, on over one hundred projects provides this paper's focus. There are significant indications that geomembranes can frequently minimize the damages caused by the expansive soils.
