Abstract:

Many recent product enhancements have helped to move automated people mover (APM) technology toward the 21st Century with far reaching prospects for applications in the mass transit industry. This paper describes Microprocessor based designs which have reduced the size and quantity of discrete hardware resulting in marked improvements in: 1) vehicle train control operation for improved reliability and availability, 2) man-machine interface improvements for greater system operation control, and 3) maintenance management information, utilizing an enhanced microprocessor based maintenance management information system resulting in improved system maintainability, availability and parts procurement and inventory control.
