Abstract:

It is observed recently in Sendai City that the motor traffic from suburban residential areas to the city center is rapidly increasing and incoming cars are often delayed in the morning peak hours. To improve this condition, we have installed a subway system extending 15 kilometers from north to south, and are now investigating another new transit system of medium size from east to west. We are now studying a plan to construct multiplex underground space (Underground Transit Mall) consisted of a new transit system and urban facilities by introducing a new transit system into underground of the Aoba-dori Street in the downtown area.
