Abstract:

An automated road surface crack detection system has been integrated into the Automated Road Analyzer (ARAN). The acquisition system features controlled lighting through strobe lights synchronized to high speed shuttered CCD cameras. 100% of the lane surface is recorded on a single SVHS tape. The processing system marries a series of image analysis algorithms (WiseCrax) with qualitative input by the pavement engineer.
