Abstract:

The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is a small autonomous region in the eastern part of northwest China and below Inner Mongolia with an area of 66,400 square meters. Ningxia's population is approximately 4,280,000 including a large population of the Hui nationality. Irrigation is widespread in the areas adjacent to the Yellow River, and Ningxia is known as one of the cradles of civilization in China because of the river and its irrigated agriculture. The climate in Ningxia is generally semi-arid to arid with the exception of the southern tip of Ningxia which contains a mountainous region and gets significant rainfall.
