Abstract:

A new calculation procedure is described which provides an alternative to full-scale testing for composite slabs with ribbed decking used in buildings. This procedure consists of combining shear-bond test results with a numerical analysis to predict the behavior and strength of composite slabs. Example calculations are performed for six similar composite slabs with ribbed decking. Predicted values of load vs. mid-span deflection and maximum moment capacities are given for each calculated example. Comparisons are made with the ASCE design method (m & k method) and with the Eurocode 4 alternative design method (partial shear connection method). Available test results are also included in these comparisons. Conclusions are drawn concerning the use of the calculation procedure for both design methods.
