Abstract:

This paper describes a study into a system of walling that comprises two skins of profiled steel sheeting infilled with concrete. During construction the steel sheeting acts as permanent formwork but, once the concrete has hardened, also acts as reinforcement to the concrete wall. Pilot tests, where the wall is loaded as a column, are described along with preliminary design studies.
