Abstract:

The most common research method for CFST (concrete-filled steel tubular) members is to study the behaviors of the steel tube and the core concrete separately, then add them together to determine the load-carrying capacity of the CFST members. In the past three years, the authors developed a finite element method to determine the behavior of CFST members under different loadings. Results show the method is reliable and the simplified design formulae can be used to design both solid and hollow CFST members.
