Composite Construction?Recent Past, Present and Near Future

by Ivan M. Viest, IMV Consulting, Bethlehem, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete II

Abstract:

The present paper covers a shorter time span. It is divided into three parts: recent past, present and near future. The remarks regarding the recent past are limited to my personal experiences. Thus, the story deals mostly with the past 40 years. The present is illustrated with examples of medium span bridges and very tall buildings. Many of the bridges are on the Interstate Highway System built mainly in the 1960's and 70's. Most of the skyscrapers are of the 1980 vintage. Finally, the part concerning the near future deals with fruitful areas for research.
