Structural and Non-Structural Debris-Flow Countermeasures

by Takahisa Mizuyama, Kyoto Univ, Kyoto, Japan,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

Debris-flow can potentially occur for almost any torrents whose gradient is steeper than a given critical value and the frequency at which the debris-flow occurs depends on geological and meteorological conditions. Current countermeasures against these debris flow hazards are either structural and non-structural in natures. The present situation surrounding these countermeasures is reviewed and discussed mainly based on Japanese methods.
