Abstract:

A one-dimensional water quality model (WESTEX model) for simulation of thermal stratification is used to test the performance of such models related to hydrometeorological input data. A sensitivity analysis shows that the results are strongly dependent on the quality of input data, mainly air temperature, dew point temperature and short-wave solar radiation. Since the first two are quite often available, it is then proposed an alternative of using synthetic series of atmospheric transmittance, in order to improve the application of thermal stratification models in areas with scarce data of short-wave solar radiation. The tests were applied in the Jacarei Reservoir, part of the Sao Paulo Water Supply System.
