Abstract:

A furrow irrigation simulation computer model based on the volume-balance method is described. The model is used to develop information on furrow system performance that can be used in an education program. System performance depends on interactions between furrow flow rate, slope, field length, roughness, furrow geometry, water infiltration rate, and irrigation set time. Short courses have been conducted to help growers understand these factors. A graphics component of the furrow computer program allows growers to observe the distribution of infiltrated water for the original furrow system, then make the desired change and observe the effect of this change on the water distribution.
