Abstract:

The Utah Lake/Jordan River basin is comprised of several river systems that are hydrologically related but, for the most part, have been managed and operated separately. To further complicate matters, water use practices have, and are continuing to change, the several large water resources projects have been constructed. Recently, the Utah State Engineer developed a distribution plan for the basin to ensure the equitable distribution of the water, manage transfers between river systems, and regulate water rights on a basin-wide approach. The plan sets operating criteria for storage reservoirs and addresses other water distribution issues.
