Abstract:

Various mathematical models exist for the analysis of reservoir flood routing problems. This paper compares recent Runge-Kutta and Euler numerical techniques with the well known Puls approach for tracing the passage of flood waves through unregulated reservoirs. The results indicate that a high degree of accuracy is achieved with the numerical models but the Runge-Kutta solutions are relatively insensitive to the routing period and the method can be readily programmed.
