Abstract:

A modified version of the US Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) one-dimensional (longitudinal) stream water quality model, QUAL2E, was applied to the lower Missouri River to evaluate the effects of reducing release flows from Gavins Point Dam on key water quality constituents. QUAL2E was successfully calibrated and verified using data collected by the Omaha and Kansas City Districts. A key to the successful calibration was the inclusion of algae as a state variable.
