Abstract:

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County, Arizona recently completed a study whose goal was to identify and describe four alluvial fans for instrumentation and long-term monitoring. A primary result of this project was the development of new technical, process-oriented definitions to describe and differentiate among alluvial fans that, while exhibiting the generic, regulatory landform shape, are subject to different type of hydraulic processes.
